Trane Website

Company Overview

In 1885, James Trane, a Norwegian immigrant steamfitter and plumber, opened his own store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. By 1916, Trane controlled a large part of the manufacturing heating products market. In 1925, however, Trane’s creation of the convection radiator along with new a new sales strategy, launched the company into a rapid period of growth.

Since 1925, both creative thinking and aggressive strategies enabled Trane to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of central air-conditioning, heating, and ventilating comfort systems for residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. With manufacturing centers and markets in not only the United States, but also in China, Brazil, France, and Egypt, Trane currently responds to the needs of a global community.

Opportunity

In keeping with the desire to remain at the forefront of their industry, Trane realized that creating a strong web presence was essential. Trane wanted to both expand sales with current customers and seek new web-related markets. Trane selected Rapidigm for the job given their experience with large-scale enterprises and their technical prowess in web development.

Solution

Some of Swipht’s early experience in web development was gained as Rapidigm consultants. A particularly noteable project was the Trane web site redesign that Jeff, Brian and Ewan all worked on. Rapidigm’s initial focus was Trane’s websites for its Residential and Corporate divisions. Both sites featured an updated color scheme for each of the divisions of Trane and a Flash feature within the home page. In addition, a complete reconstruction of content resulted in greater access to information for users.

Results

Trane’s redesign was considered a success and led to additional projects for Rapidigm. Such needs included edits for the Commercial division, re-facing the Commercial and Worldwide sections of the site, and cleaning up and enhancing the functionality of the application. Particularly significant was Trane’s request to replace their Oracle Billing Module with the new PeopleSoft’s Billing module. A year-long project, this billing project leveraged both on-site and offshore resources.
