Social Media Advertising
Social Networks have advantages over Search Engine Advertising based on specific demographic and psychographic audience criteria, known as Hypersegmenting. Because Social Media sites collect information about their users, advertisers can target the audience much more accurately than by just using keywords. Using data about an individual's self-stated attributes and preferences, advertisers can focus their efforts on the highest-impact audiences and tailor messages to make ads more relevant.
Hypersegments
The most difficult but most important aspect of hypertargeting is choosing the right hypersegments. The types of segments include, but are not limited to:
- Age Range
- Sex (Male, Female)
- Location (Country, City)
- Education Level (College Grad, In College, In High School, etc)
- Relationship status (Single, In a relation, Engaged, Married, etc)
- Workplace (List of Employees)
- Interests (Free-form keywords)
These segments are even more powerful when properly used in combination.
Adverting types
Social Media Networks like Facebook have additional advertising types. While they offer Cost-per-clicks (CPC) like the Search Engines, they also offer CPM, or cost per 1000 impressions. CPM's can deliver impressions inexpensively when clickthroughs do not matter.
